Privacy Policy

This privacy policy exists to assure you that Into will collect, store and make use of any personal information you submit in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Why do we need your personal details?

On certain areas of the into website you may be asked to submit some personal information for the following reasons:

• Registration to enhance your personal experience of the into website: for example, by selecting your subjects and items of interest, subscribing to receive information by email, and entering competitions, etc.

• Use the Discussion Forums: you can choose for your discussion messages to appear only under your chosen alias if you wish; your other details (e.g. email address) will not be accessible to other users. It is necessary to store your unique combination of name and email address in order to help prevent other users posting messages under your name. Also, this enables us to identify and take action against users who post messages contravening our Code of Conduct and Terms of Use.

• Analysis to identify user demographics: this analysis may be conducted within the into group or by a relevant third party, but will not include information that could identify you as an individual. Why do we need to do analysis? In order to provide the services and information you want, we need to know your interests. We find out by asking you, by reading your comments and by tracking which are the most popular areas of the site. This helps us provide a more personal service when you visit us again.

• You have requested that we contact you.

When will we use your personal details to communicate with you?

We may only use your personal details to communicate with you (by email, wherever possible) in the following circumstances:

• Administration issues: for example, where there is a problem with your account or the information you have published contravenes our Terms of Use and Code of Conduct.

• About other Into and partner services:  this will only be done with your consent.

• Into e-newsletters: this will only be done if you have subscribed.

• We may use this information to inform you of any changes to the website including Terms of Use, Code of Conduct and this Privacy Policy. Any changes to these policies will always be posted on the website.

• In response to your enquiries/feedback: if you have requested information or we require clarification.

• To confirm we have received any contact you make with us via email or the website.

Collecting and storing your personal information

We will hold your information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and will comply with all Data Protection Act requirements.

• When you supply your personal information to us we have an obligation to collect and hold your information fairly. This means we must state why we are asking for your information. Please see the earlier section.

• We will only collect and hold your personal information for the purposes we have specified in our statement of intent: titled ‘Why do we need your personal details?’.

• We will only collect and hold your personal information that is relevant and necessary to our purposes.

• We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose is met. Or in the case that you request removal of your personal information from our databases.

How do we collect information about you?

We will collect information from you in two ways through registration and web-forms (where you will have to actively save/submit your information) and through ‘cookies’.

Some web pages/websites store ‘cookies’ in your browser to track your patterns of browsing behaviour. We will endeavour to make minimal – if any - use of this, and only to:

• Track usage within the Into website and not on/around any other website.

• Track usage where users are not registered/logged-in so that they are not asked the same ‘Who are you?’ questions that they have already answered.
If you wish, you can adjust your browser settings to a) ask/notify you each time before downloading a cookie b) disable cookies altogether. However, disabling cookies may mean some areas of the website will not work properly.

Sharing information about you with third parties

• We may provide third parties with overall statistics about visitors to our website. However, this will not include information that could personally identify you.

• We will never make your personal details available to companies outside the Into Consortium group for marketing purposes. Our representatives may hold your data so that your details and/or order can be processed and/or account maintained but will be bound by the same policy.

• We reserve the right to access and to disclose personal information to comply with applicable laws and lawful government requests, to ensure the protected operation of our systems, or to protect either ourselves or our users.

Your right to access your personal information

You have a right to access a copy of the personal information Into holds about you and have any incorrect personal information corrected.

By logging into ‘My Account’, as a registered user you can manage your full personal website profile.

You must submit a written request for a copy, amendment or deletion of any other personal information you have given into by:

• Filling in and submitting the Contact Us form.
• Emailing

• Writing to Donna Lightbown, into, 5-13 Trinity St, London SE1 1DB.

Users 16 and under

As legal guardians, parents or guardians have an obligation to supervise children and dependents, and to help decide which areas of the website are suitable for their viewing.

Changes to Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as a result of any future changes in the law or as a result of our commitment to continue developing and improving this website.

In the event that this Privacy Policy is amended, we will inform you by providing details on the website and by contacting you personally using the information you have provided when registering.

This Privacy Policy was last updated October 2004.
