PROMOTING AFRICAN/BLACK HISTORY & CULTURE IN THE UK TAKES A NEW TURN

 Mission Statement:                                                          A keen observer at a mini exhbtn.

'Our mission is to preserve, educate, and raise awareness of African/Black history and culture in the UK through commerce and other activities, and in so doing promote community cohesion'.

ic2 was set up to promote African/Black heritage and culture in Southwark and the UK. This is because Southwark is home to many Africans and enjoys the accolade of being a Borough with one of the highest population of Blacks/Africans in the UK.   

Based in Southwark, the organisation has as its aims and objectives: 

 · To promote the values of West African/Black history, culture and heritage particularly in Southwark and the UK. 

· To preserve fading West African Culture for posterity and keep links with African heritage.  

· To educate youths on West African cultural and traditional practices and values inherent in such practices. 

· To promote community and social cohesion in Southwark through our activities. 

· The discovery of roots. 

· To highlight and promote monuments of international heritage in the West African region. 

 ic2 project is educational and encourage the West African/Black community to identify, look after and celebrate their cultural heritage. 

 This increases opportunities for learning about West African/Black cultural heritage and open up resources and sites to the widest possible audience. 

 At ic2 we pride ourselves on providing an array of contemporary, dynamic, and professional standards of presentations. Our live performances have been designed to be interactive and participative. 

 Our video materials make our exhibitions as educational and enjoyable as possible. Through our project we support all forms of equality and diversity effort to promote race relations and community/social cohesion 

Our history and culture exhibition traces the early WA/African/Black settlers in Southwark and the UK. It features black historical profiles and migration pattern into the UK with emphasis on Southwark. A special feature on the first University in the world in WA. Great pre-historic kingdoms in WA such as the Benin’ Kingdom, Caribbean history, artefacts, amongst many other subjects on display. 

 Our exhibition has been roundly applauded by majority of visitors. It is a social, educational and networking forum. Our project uncovers the past to understand the present.
