Update on subway works and ecopod - 23 June
Southern roundabout
Our most recent newsletter reports that work to the southern roundabout and subway closure will start in the summer. This work is being carried out by Transport for London (TfL), in partnership with Southwark Council.
TfL is the approving authority for the works and will be responsible for carrying them out. Southwark Council has recently been informed that TfL need to undertake additional traffic modelling prior to securing final approval for start on site, and that more extensive tests on the impact on the wider TfL network have taken longer than originally anticipated. Current advice from TfL is that work will now start in the first quarter of next year.
The southern roundabout is a major London ring road and the extra planning is being done to ensure minimum dispruption to local people and businesses, and to traffic flows within London.
Improvement works to St Mary's Churchyard being carried out by Southwark Council will still commence on schedule in late summer.
Elephant and Castle and Cross River Tram ecopod
The ecopod will now be installed in late August due to a delay with the building contractors.
