Elephant Links Regeneration Partnership
The Elephant Links regeneration partnership completed its last year of full-funding in March 2006. The programme helped facilitate social and economic programmes in Elephant and Castle.
The SRB programmewas instigated to prepare local residents for the forthcoming £1.5 billion physical redevelopment of Elephant and Castle.
It is being suceeded by the Elephant and Castle Trust, an organisation that will be comprised of local residents, businesses and organisations in the area. The trust will continue to manage assests set up under the SRB progamme and provide a social regeneration programme in the area.
There were two main components to the Elephant Links scheme:
physical and environmental regeneration, mainly in relation to transport infrastructure
enhancing social inclusion by tackling low educational achievement, poor employment opportunities and poor health.
Elephant Links introduced 43 comprehensive programmes to help prepare the community for change. Initiatives have included training programmes, improving community support and providing better access to business advice.
