Cross Bones Gates

Thanks to the monies made available in 2006 through Borough & Bankside community council's Cleaner, Greener, Safer scheme Cross Bones Graveyard has six planters of ivy and a bronze plaque to honour the site.

The plaque contains a dedication to the 15,000 Southwark paupers whose final resting place was Cross Bones Graveyard. The ivy planters represent the first step towards local supporters' aim to see a memorial garden included in any future development plan.

We are pleased to have been granted funds, again from the Cleaner, Greener, Safer scheme to renew the ivy and replace the planters. This should be completed during October 09.

Cross Bones Graveyard, on Redcross Way SE1, is Southwark's only 'people's shrine' and is open to everyone - to offer blessings to those buried there, or to your own loved ones. Please place poems, ribbons and precious objects on the gates.

Friends of Cross Bones Graveyard meet on
the 23rd of every month at 6:45pm
